Richardson Lookout Cottages

Things To Do
There are many great things to see and do while visiting Deer Island. Deer Island is still very uncommercialized and the people who come here, come for that reason. Deer Island is known for its wildlife, solitude, wonderful vistas and of course for its very friendly and obliging residents.
I am going to list a few things which I consider a "Must Do" if you have the time while visiting us.

There are several outfitters operating out of St. Andrews, but please remember every one of these operators come right here just beyond the view of the cottages. You can see their boats from the cottages. We highly recommend booking a tour with "Capt. Riddle's". He comes right to Deer Island to pick you up, he runs a small, but very personable operation. His web site is www.finback.com and he has a toll free number 1-877-fin-back. As well he is a "local" boy - as in he lives on Campobello I

This is becoming such a popular activity for locals and visitors alike. It is a fantastic way to get up close and personal with the local wildlife. We highly recommend "Seascape Kayaking" which is a highly recognized outfit on Deer Island. This business is owned and operated by Bruce Smith who has chosen Deer Island as his place of summer operation. Our guests truly have enjoyed the expertise of Bruce and his staff. Please check him out at www.seascapekayaktours.com

Please take a day and "Island Hop" aboard our locally owned and operated Eastcoast Ferries. Stan Lord and crew operate two ferries one to Campobello Island, NB and one to Eastport, Me. They are such a great ride you often see whales, seals and porpoises aboard these vessels. Once you hit your destination you can shop, eat and enjoy the local color. Please check out www.eastcoastferriesltd.com for all the trip information you will need.

We have the "Clark Gregory Preserve" at Chocolate Cove which is on Deer Island and is managed by The Nature Trust of New Brunswick. This is a wonderful walking trail that takes you along a part of the shoreline. Please take the time to walk this wonderful trail.

If you like to bike well Deer Island is up to the challenge. Deer Island is a great place to bike. Just remember our rides are narrow, with lots of challenging quick steep hills and will challenge the most seasoned cyclist. I enjoy biking the Island a lot it is a great form of exercise as well as a great way to see the Island.

There are many great places to shop on Deer Island. We have 3 small grocery stores; Welch's in Fairhaven - fantastic cuts of meat as well the only gas pump on Deer Island, Richardson's Grocery in Lord's Cove, Rick also has the Post Office and Bella's in Lambertville. We also have some wonderful Galleries and Gift Shops. Jerome Andrews has the "Boatshop Gallery" and Lynn Bowland has the Fireball Gallery
